Big News from Napier Family Centre

At the recent Annual General Meeting of the Napier Family Centre several big pieces of news were announced that gave expression to both the extent of the work the centre now undertakes, as well as ways in which both organisations and individuals are able to support the work they do.

A new name reflecting a broader reality:

After 40 years, the Napier Family Centre has recognised that their name no longer fully represents the breadth of services they offer or the wider community they now support. At their AGM, they revealed their new name: Weave Hawke’s Bay. This name better reflects their mahi from Wairoa to Waipukurau while staying true to their kaupapa. It symbolises the way they collaborate, value relationships, and weave together many threads to strengthen our communities.

Although the official launch of Weave won’t take place until early 2025, the energy and excitement from those close to the organisation, who got the first glimpse at the AGM, is already building.

Getting the structures right:

The AGM also voted to approve a new constitution, which has been a work in progress for many months. The process of updating the constitution ensures that the organisation is fully compliant with the Incorporated Societies Act 2022, while giving them the opportunity to consider whether it is fit for purpose as their mahi continues to grow and evolve. It was an important piece of work for the organisation to align their governance with best practices and their future goals. In addition to the new constitution, the board presented a refreshed membership structure to better reflect the needs of the organisation and community.

A new way to support the mahi:

At the AGM, a new support structured was announced. This sees the opportunity for supporters of the Family Centre to pay an annual subscription, both as organisations and as individuals. This model of funding will support the board in undergirding their income streams, which face significant challenges with change of governments and policies in the field of Social Services. The membership is very affordable. For businesses and organisations, an annual subscription of $100 is payable to be a member, while for individuals the annual subscription is only $10.
