Celebrating 150 years

On Sunday, 29 June you are invited to join us in two services of celebration and thanksgiving for the life of All Saints' Church. Consecrated on St Peter's Day (June 29) in 1875, All Saints' has been the home of worship and service over all of those years and generations, including being the planting church for Puketapu, Meeanee, and Greenmeadows and the support of many others.

On June 29, our two services will have very different feelings and purposes. The morning service, 10am, will be a civic focused service with a celebration of the history including a retelling of the early story, a photo montage of some of the events and people, and some words from the Mayor. Following this, we will have a charge for the future, asking us to consider how the generations gathered in 150 years will say about us and our commitment to the mission of the church, as those founding members were. The service will conclude with a communion and then a shared cooked brunch.

Our 3pm service will be accompanied by the Cathedral Choir and be a sung version of the 1662 Book of Communion Prayer Holy Communion. This will be structured traditionally, with the service led facing east, and the altar placed into the higher sanctuary. The intent is to capture something of the way and spirit of the worship the original community would have had in 1875 - thankfully with better heating!

All are welcome to come and join us, but there will be a significant number of people present. To help accommodate this, those on walkers will need to take their seats and a sidesperson will take them to another room, returning them to you when the service ends. Communion at the 10am service will also be at multiple stations on the Sunday, so please pay attention to instructions as they are offered on the day.
