All of us are called to serve those in need, to love one another and the church as a whole is called to proclaim the grace of God through its mission and life. As a church, we have sought to do that in new ways this year. One facet of that has been the partnership with the parish of St Mark's in Suva, helping to resource the lifechanging and spiritual rich ministry they are offering to some of the poorest in that city. This is our church commitment, as a community making a difference for another community and seeking their input into our life as well. Alongside this, we are partnering with World Vision to offer our members a chance to engage with child sponsorship - an initiative that brings the life transforming power of generosity and grace to bear on us as individuals. I will leave it to World Vision to share both the power that child sponsorship has, as well as their particularly effective practice in community transformation, which you can see at work by watching these videos. Brianna and Anna's story and Joel and Collins story.
As a church, we are aiming for at least 30 new sponsorships, we are a good part of the way there. More information about sponsorship can be found here, but as a general outline it costs $54 a month and every cent of that contribution goes directly to the work of World Vision. Our sponsorship will be focussed on the community of Sarankhola in Bangaladesh.
If child sponsorship is something that captures your heart, but you are not sure of your capacity to fund the $54 a month this does not mean it is impossible. The Vestry of the Parish has set aside a pool of funding to support this initiative and so a process is in place for us as a community the help underwrite some sponsorships if members can make the commitment to writing and communicating with the child. If this is something that interests you, please click here and fill out a short form to help us arrange this for you.
