“Lord, I have heard of Your fame; I stand in awe of Your deeds, O Lord. Renew them in our day, in our time make them known". (Habakkuk 3:2)
Habakkuk was not an ordinary prophet. He did not bring regular messages of judgment against a specific king or nation. Instead, he had honest and profound conversations with God. He questioned, wept, and sought answers for the pain and injustice he saw around him.
The scene was dark: idolatry, oppression, and the apparent triumph of evil. Yet, Habakkuk understood something essential: he had to live by faith and trust in God’s sovereignty. That’s why he cried out, “Lord, revive Your work.”
In the original Hebrew, “revive” (chayah) means “to bring back to life something that was dead.” Habakkuk wasn’t simply asking for encouragement—he was pleading for supernatural restoration. He knew that God is the very source of life, able to turn dry bones into a living army, just as He showed the prophet Ezekiel.
That’s what revival is: a spiritual awakening where the Holy Spirit breathes new life into hearts, churches, cities, and nations. It’s when faith is rekindled, worship becomes passionate, and love for God and people burns strongly once again.
Maybe you feel spiritually tired or distant. Maybe your faith seems weak in the face of struggles. Today, pray Habakkuk’s prayer:
“Lord, revive Your work in my life. Breathe Your Spirit over me and restore what is dry and lifeless.”
