Our new curate

Once again I may be accused of bigging up my part here but we can't let another week go by where we don't take a moment to congratulation Derry Boylan. Derry joins us as the new curate. Still the same Derry but with new learnings to achieve.

You may (or not) be wondering "what is a curate"?

Well Goggle says - In the Anglican tradition, a curate (from the Latin curatus, meaning "care of souls") is a member of the clergy who serves as an assistant to the parish priest.

A bit like an apprenticeship, this can be done during their first year of being a Deacon and continues once ordained as a Priest, but still under the mentorship of a senior priest.

Most of the tasks are learned "on the job", like baptisms, weddings and funerals.

Derry has already assisted with a funeral, has a baptism planned in March and wonderfully a wedding in April, which will give him a taste of all three in this year alone. Even some Vicars don't get to perform a wedding if the church doesn't get a request during their term.

Peter Williamson is thrilled to have this support.
