Supporting the church

Updated: May 2

The financial support of the church is an integral part of our mission and ministry. While we work hard to develop and adapt additional streams of income to minimise the weight of responsibility on our community, at the end of all things we are a church and to maintain that clarity of purpose it must be the church that supports the church.

In light of tax receipts that have gone out to donors this week, we felt it would be a good opportunity to update you on the efforts to make our parish financially sustainable.

Over the past five years, the Vestry and staff have been working tirelessly to develop multiple streams of income to support the mission of the church. We are nearly at the capacity of this work, with buildings overflowing and grant requests stretching our team and Vicar. Where once offerings were 70% of our income, they are now only 40%. All of that while our income has nearly doubled over the past 4 years.

As a parish, God is calling us to be a part of the renewing of the Anglican Church in this country, and we are taking on that mantle, but to do it, we need your support. Whether you presently give or not, we ask that you prayerfully consider your offerings. We are not a church or a community that will ever demand from you a percentage, instead believing that God loves a cheerful giver and that it must be an expression of your devotion to the work of God through the church. A more helpful measure is to consider whether what you presently give reflects the belief you have in the importance of the local church and the flourishing of its ministry, not only in your life but in the hope of bringing light, life, hope and grace to the lives of others.

While financial support is by far and away the area the church is most in need of, there are many other ways to support the church if that is not possible for you. Here are some of the pathways we presently have.

Regular giving:

Regular giving is the best way for everyone to benefit from your financial contribution. Through an automatic payment, your giving is recorded and a tax receipt is given, allowing you to claim up to 33% of your annual donations back. To join this system, you simply need to transfer a donation to our bank account and put your name as a reference:

Account Owner: The Anglican Parish of Taradale

Account Name: Offerings

Account Number: 03-0631-0006564-00

Bequests and Legacies:

Another means by which families and individuals have chosen to bless the work of the church is by writing a donation into their will. When you look at many of the churches built around the world, it is the legacy of such donations. To explore this, we encourage you to contact our parish treasurer, Michael Nes. Michael is a partner at BDO in Napier and knowledgeable about how best to establish such a thing. His email address is treasurer@taradaleanglican.church

Time and Talents:

If you are not in a position to give financially please consider supporting one of our

ministries through the contribution of your time and talents. This helps to share the

load on our stretched volunteers. We are launching a new campaign about this in

the coming weeks.

Prayer:

This can sound twee, but it is anything but. Prayer is the bedrock of what we do. Please pray, either by yourself or by joining us at 9:15am every weekday at All Saints Church as we pray for the people and mission of our church.
