"In the beautiful native forests, ngahere, of Aotearoa New Zealand there is a multiplicity and diversity of life. From the large trees that form the canopy to the smallest of shrubs or the newest shoots of life, there is a connectedness and relationship that allows for the beauty of the whole". These are the opening words of a document presented to the Synod of the Diocese of Waiapu as a vision for our diocese and our churches was case by Bishop Andrew.
The document, which is linked below, details how the new vision and its strategic priorities were discerned and highlights the role discipleship, Koru ministry, whakapapa, vocation, and connection need to play in who we grow to become as a diocese. Using the image of the native forest, Bishop Andrew encourages us to see ourselves, no matter how large or small, as part of a greater whole that creates a context and environment that, when rightly nurtured, can see life and health grow.
With the presentation of this document to Synod, a number of workflows were also offered that outlined the next steps from an organisational perspective. These will be communicated in the coming months as the Strategy Working Group, new Standing Committee and Diocesan Administration work through plans and processes for the renewal of our common life.
