All Saints' Makeover

Updated: Jan 23

The painting of All Saints' Church is well underway now, with the ceiling area likely to be completed by Friday, 24 January. This will then see the scaffolding come out and the work on lower areas begin. The painting will transform the space and in the immediate experience it will be very white. This is intentional. With the installation of lighting technology in the coming months, the white will give us the opportunity to cast any colour or hue we wish to across the ceiling and the pelmet spaces, adding great depth to the space for worship and for general gatherings. The arches will also get some special attention, with lighting to draw them out without making them total centres of attention.

While the painting in being completed, work will also begin on the recarpeting of the entire All Saints' complex. This will see the carpet in the lounge, foyer, offices, octagon, hall and church replaced completely and new carpet tiles installed. This work will begin on Thursday, 23 January and be undertaken relatively quickly. It will mean that when you come to All Saints over the week following, you may encounter a foyer or offices with no carpet in them and/or have to adjust some routes through the complex to avoid newly laid tiles.

The Vestry made the decision to go with carpet tiles for a number of reasons. The primary ones were the ease of replacement when damage and spills occur, with the ability to pull up on square rather than replacing a whole area; the ubiquitous nature of them such that there is always a supply for repairs; and finally, the hardwearing nature of the tiles - with almost all community spaces and conference spaces now using that style of carpet. The primary areas this will stand out will be the foyer and the church, where there will be a move from the bold red and the subtle green/blue to a patterned black carpet.

We look forward to being able to share some update photos as spaces get toward completion and new carpet is laid!
