Becoming a Safe Church

The Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand, and Polynesia is continuing in its response to the work of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in State and Faith Based Schools. As a key part of this work, the Diocese of Waiapu has established firm expectations of those who belong to and serve in parishes and affiliated organisations. This has primarily been worked out through the implementation of Safeguarding Training.

As a parish we are hosting a number of safeguarding training opportunities at the end of February which is open to any and all who would like to be involved. The training is divided between Level One (for all volunteers and members of the church) and Level Two (For lay ministers, vestry, clergy and employees). For those interested in Level One, the training is broken down into two stages, 1a and 1b, both of which are 3 hours in length. We have broken these down so that people can attend the training over two days, or choose to complete the entirety in one day.

The opportunities for training are:

Friday 1 March: Level 1a - 9:30am to 12:30pm

Level 1b - 1:30pm to 4:30pm

Saturday 2 March: Level 1a - 9:30am to 12:30pm

Level 1b - 1:30pm to 4:30pm

Level 2 - 2pm to 4:30pm

Sunday, 3 March: Level 2 - 1pm to 3:30pm

To register your intention to attend, please email the church office.
