Whispers of Grace - Peace
Peace arrives quietly
in a world that’s anything but.
A green shoot pushing through old wood,
a small warm breath in a cold waiting room,
a whisper in the wilderness that won’t go away.
Prepare the way, the voice says,
not with trumpets or tidy hearts
but with honesty
and the courage to clear a bit of space.
Clear a corner of your mind.
Clear a path through your cluttered days.
Clear a tiny place inside you
where hope can take root.
Because peace rarely starts big.
It begins like a sprout that shouldn’t have survived.
It begins like a hand offered
when the easier choice was turning away.
It begins in the wondering
about what could grow
from what feels cut down.
Some days peace feels impossible.
The wolves and lambs inside us
don’t sit well together.
Our tempers flare, our fears rise,
our longing for justice collides
with our longing for comfort.
We forget to look for light.
We forget to listen.
Yet peace keeps rising.
In the stubborn places.
In the tired places.
In the too busy and too broken places.
Peace grows like something God planted
when we weren’t paying attention.
Turn toward it, the old prophet pleads.
Not in guilt but in invitation.
Turn and see what shoots up
from the stumps you thought were done.
Turn and see how God reshapes the wild ground.
Turn and see how even your smallest choice
can soften the world.
This is the Advent work.
Not perfection.
Not pretending.
Just one step toward the light
that keeps finding us,
one breath of calm in the middle of our noise,
one act of kindness that shifts the story.
Peace is coming.
Peace is already here.
It grows in us
and beyond us
until the day the world is healed
and the prophet’s dream
is no longer a dream
but the ground on which we stand.
