At the beginning of the past week, Alan travelled to Brisbane with Bishop Andrew, Colleen Kaye (Diocesan Registrar) and Graeme Brock (Waiapu Strategic Lead) to attend a seminar led by Sarah Jackson of the Church Revitalisation Trust. The trust was birthed from the work of Holy Trinity Brompton and its projects to renew and restore churches in the Church of England. It functions as a hub of expertise, experience and fundraising to resource church plants and replants across their province.
Sarah's seminar was primarily geared toward Church planting, the necessity for that work in the present age, and how networks and denominations can leverage their strengths to support and encourage planting in their places. The Waiapu team took that opportunity to learn, but also to have lunch with Sarah to pick her brain on experiences, foundations, attributes and learning when it comes to re-missioning and revitalisation and the barriers and stumbling blocks they have encountered in their work. Her input was very valuable, but helpfully and encouragingly aligned with what we have already been discussion as a Strategic Working Group.
While the learnings and experiences of the seminar sink in over the coming months, look forward to some announcements in the new year and how we as a community may have a part to play in the diocesan vision to revitalise our church life and future.
