Welcome to alister

As we go through the recruitment process for a new Vicar, we have pleasure in welcoming The Reverend Alister Hendery.

Alister has provided his own Introduction below:

Bishop Andrew has asked me to serve as Interim Priest-in-Charge of the Parish until a new Vicar begins their ministry among you, and I am delighted to be with you during this time.

I was ordained in Waiapu 46 years ago, and since then I have served in many places and in a variety of roles. Over the years, interim ministry has become something of a speciality for me. This will be the twenty-fourth such ministry I have undertaken, and each one has been unique in its story and grace.

As I journey with you through this time of transition, what matters most to me is being with you. My calling in a parish such as this is simply to be present: to listen, to pray, to encourage, and to walk alongside you in the life of faith. My priorities are captured in the Māori saying that asks, “What is the most important thing in the world?” and answers, he tāngata, he tāngata, he tāngata — it is people, it is people, it is people. People, the life we share together, and our relationship with God are at the heart of my concern. So if you would like to talk, ask questions, share something of your story, or simply have a cup of coffee and some company, please feel free to arrange a time with me.

I look forward very much to meeting you, worshipping with you, sharing in word and sacrament, and getting to know you all.
